Can the Loss and Damage fund ensure Mongolia’s fight against climate change?

Under the guidance of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an international committee has reached an agreement of recommendations on operationalising a global fund for vulnerable countries and communities affected by climate change on November 4th in Abu Dhabi. Despite a formal objection from the U.S. and reservations from other members in the 24-member transitional committee (TC), the final approval is set for the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) to the UNFCCC that will be held from November 30 - December 12 in Dubai.

Mongolia’s Climate Journey

On April 22, Earth Day, with other 129 countries Mongolia is expected to sign the Paris Climate Change Agreement, which was adopted at COP 21 at Paris last December, at New York. While Mongolia, being the largest landlocked country with development constraints, emits a minuscule of greenhouse gases (GHG), 25 percent of Mongolians are facing severe climate impacts. Among nearly 2.8 million total populations, more than 225,000 or 41% of the total herder population have been suffering from hostile weather conditions, including more than 28,000 children below the age of five.

India, Mongolia: Spiritually Connected Powers of Asia

On May 16 Prime Minister Narendra Modi would twit: ‘First Indian Prime Minister is visiting Mongolia after 60 years of our diplomatic relation’. If China is repositioning itself in the Silk Route (ancient India was a major link too) through larger economic thrust, India has to travel in the same breadth and length with the teachings and philosophy of Buddhism in North and East Asia, as Buddhism flourished prior to the Silk Route era.
